Discovery Mountain Lodge offers a reasonably priced accommodation within walking distance of the Stanley Hotel, particularly convenient for concert-goers. Recent renovations have improved the rooms, with guests praising the comfortable beds and views. However, security concerns have been raised regarding the lower-level rooms.
We watched a concert at the Stanley and didn't want to pay their high rates, so this lodge was within walking distance and very reasonably priced. We were more than pleasantly surprised with how nice our room was. We got a newly refurbished room including the bathroom and woke up to a beautiful view of a little pond on the property. To top it off, the staff was overly nice and the whole stay was just perfect. Thanks!
I recently stayed at the Discovery Lodge for 1 night after attending a concert at the Stanley. Check in was smooth, and the guy who helped me was very friendly. I stayed in a lower level room in a building further away from the main office. The room itself was nice- it appeared to have mostly new furnishings. It was clean, large, and the beds were more comfortable than most hotels I've stayed at. The shower was clean and the water was hot. The hotel grounds were cute, with a little pond (frozen over in the winter) and plenty of parking. I had one very alarming issue during my stay. In the middle of the night we were woken up by screaming and banging coming from the room next to us. It was honestly very scary, and we had no idea what was going on. We called the police because we were very concerned for the safety of the person in that room (and our own), but by the time they came out it had gone quiet. There is no staff that stays on the property, so they weren't even aware of the issue. And as a note, there were only sliding glass doors in this building on the lower level rooms, and they only have a latch lock which doesn't feel safe enough, especially in that situation. Please consider adding some kind of dead bolt, or the bars that fold down on the sliding doors. The only other complaint is that the breakfast ran out of items early before we arrived (around 8:30-9am), so be sure to go early for the full selection.
Ugh….its a motel. You get what you pay for I guess. Avoid room 101!!! We stayed to see a show nearby in the winter months and instead of putting us in a decent room, we were given room 101 (directly under the hotel check-in/breakfast room). Not sure why. Plenty of other vacant rooms. Fine for a night but never again.
Had to redo my review, my first review was to avoid room 101 because it’s right under the lobby where everyone has breakfast in the morning lol, well after talking to the manager we were successfully moved and upgraded with no extra charge. Sometimes we jump the gun without seeing what our options are first and I was guilty of that today. Very nice place and friendly staff, just be aware of room 101 in the mornings is all lol
The TV was not hooked up and when WE hooked it up only one channel came in. Our reserved parking place was taken but outside the room the parking places weren’t marked, just IN the rooms. No beverages except coffee included in continental breakfast. The views are fabulous and it’s close enough to all that is going on in Estes.
Stayed here in July and overall it's a nice place. Room was nice and very clean. Most inexpensive place I could find in Estes Park and they are dog friendly. However, it's not the best place to stay with a dog because what little grass they have, there's a lot of Elk and goose poop. And there was a dog running loose a couple times around the main office which I was told that's the owners dog. Made me nervous because my dog is not friendly with other dogs who approach him while he's on leash. The breakfast was very minimal, small boxes of cereal and muffins and they never had lids for the coffee cups the 3 days we were there. Close to downtown.
