The Ameristar Black Hawk is consistently receiving mixed reviews, with recent concerns centering around intrusive security practices, inaccessible facilities for guests with disabilities, and issues with room cleanliness and staff responsiveness. Despite some positive feedback regarding service, amenities, and dining, numerous guests report frustrating and negative experiences impacting their overall stay.
We were accosted by security banging on our door at 4am asking for "Hotel property" that we took. If you are a fan of roulette don't even think about leaving the table with "Hotel property" as beginner gamblers we left the table with the roulette chips and we were rudely awakened by security at 4 AM banging on our door demanding the chips. This place is an absolute disaster of an operation, who doesn't tell a rookie they can't take roulette chips from the table? Also why can't we reconcile this in the morning at a decent hour? Every interaction with a staff member has been nothing but negative. As if we are a nuisance. I have never felt more unwelcome in any establishment. I understand the issue of different values at different times for roulette chips, however... security banging on our door at 4a stating they witnessed on camera a female leaving the table wIth the roulette chips. Presumably with a time stamp and other evidence... sounds like something a multi night paying guest could reasonably reconcile at a decent hour. Not 4a like a grand theft suspect? If $300 in the middle of the night is an issue for a casino they have bigger problems. Makes one wonder about the financial health of an organization? Also big warning. No policy posted online or anywhere public but the hotel has a NO alcohol allowed in your room policy. Don't bring beers or other beverage with you. Hotel policy is to confiscate alcohol as you pass by security on the way to check in. Seriously, you are not allowed to bring beverages to your own private hotel room they will be confiscated if they see them. We were told not to worry you can get beverages as you gamble. 5 hours of gambling and we had 3 waitresses come by. Had to go buy drinks at the bar for 5 of us. A real joke. From terrible management to overzealous security there is no world in which I would ever return to give them my business. We were treated like criminals from the moment we walked in the doors with a box of Coronas. I am regretful we spent so much money in their casino, restaurants, and hotel. Shame on me. Avoid at all costs, worst experience ever. Exactly the reason I will never come to Blackhawk especially the Ameristar.
We enjoyed our stay to a degree. Staff was great, the room nice. Only one problem. I don't know what they clean the floors with but they were so slick that my husband and I almost fell several times. We enjoyed the buffet but were very disappointed that it is not open during the week. We stayed for five nights for our anniversary on the point is a maybe and the only place open was the Fireside Kitchen. We both also have free buffets from our play and couldn't use them. Hopefully they will still be there should we decide to stay again. Which at this point is a maybe.
After playing here for years, I had built up a decent amount of Comps. My wife and I decided to use the free room one night and bring the dog. The dog had an accident in the room, which I cleaned up and asked for some cleaning supplies and a fresh top sheet. When we checked out, I discovered that they had charged me an additional $200 on top of my room fees, which include a pet deposit that was nonrefundable. I called to have the charges taken off and eventually wound up talking to Michelle. Instead of being met with some amount of understanding, she and the most narcissistic of ways described to me what happened in my room that night and told me that if I wanted to take this issue any further, I would need to call back and ask for the director. Come to find out, she is the director And had literally just lied to me on the phone about where to follow up. I ended up finding this out about a week and a half later when I called back and asked for the director of guest services. I told her I would make it simple for her as I had other options of places to play. She could either make it right and remove the charges or I would take my business elsewhere. She very rudely told me to have a nice day. I would recommend not staying at this hotel and remind everyone that they have a lot of options in terms of where they can gamble their hard earned money. If anybody was wondering, the dog says, sorry!
The location in the mountains was absolutely beautiful and it was fun to gamble the valet guys were wonderful but as far as the rooms go for 300 dollars a night I expect the room to be spotless and it wasn't the fan in the bathroom was so dirty and didn't even work. I will say the roof top pool and hot tub was nice but after 7pm it was supposed to be closed to miners and there was some 18 year olds in there drinking and taping and no one from the casino watching
Front desk staff here are so unhelpful and rude. Robotic attitudes with no customer resolution skills. What is the point in spending money where you are not treated with common sense or dignity. My husband had booked 2-rooms and we had our young kids with us hoping to enjoy a nice dinner and pool evening for 1-night. He got stuck due to weather so myself and the kids still drove up since we had booked and paid for the hotel already. When we got there we are told we can’t check in because he was not physically there even though we share the same last name and I offered a marriage certificate as proof. Reading reviews here a similar thing happened 2-weeks ago, the hotel replies ‘thank you this helps us identify areas of concern and we will raise this with the team’ obviously you have done absolutely nothing. Similar to that ladies experience the front desk staff kept going to the back to speak to managers finally I had to ask could the manager grace us with their presence. Out walks a lady full of attitude, no introduction to who she was, no concern for the fact I’m at her hotel with a digital room key that doesn’t work. She was extremely dismissive and rude.
Pretty good all around. The service was good, and the games were enjoyable. My only complaint was that the housekeepers were playing very loud music or watching videos on their phones while cleaning rooms at 8 a.m. and were also having phone conversations at the same time. It made for a noisy start to the morning.
We just stayed here for the Valentine’s weekend. I loved our stay. I do recommend getting a view of the town and not the mountains. Staff was amazing. I did have a few issues with stained sheets and a spilled soap dish in the bathroom the soap was everywhere on wash clothes when we arrived I brought it up to housekeeping the next morning and she took care of us. Overall it was a great stay. Next time I would like to stay 3 nights or more then just 2 nights. Try it you won’t be disappointed.
My wife and I visited yesterday with our nephew. Our nephew is a paraplegic. Coming into the casino, the button to open the door did not work which makes it inaccessible for anyone in a wheelchair. No signs to indicate that this was out of service. I notified the employee at the entrance once we got inside. His exact words were "It's okay" he also stated that parts were on order and it would take a while. What I cannot fathom to understand is why there isn't an employee to help open a door in this situation? That was our first problem in the casino. We ate at the buffet, which I find was less than stellar for the price. During our meal we went to the crab counter, my wife and I had already gotten ours and we asked our nephew if he was good, he replied yes. The person behind the counter put his crab on top out of his reach from his wheelchair. My wife noticed this and stepped in to help. This was the second employee that seemed have no concern for the handicapped or ADA compliance. Besides this, I must compliment our waitress Misty. She gave us the best service we have ever gotten from any buffet. In whole, I wish I had not chosen the Ameristar, and am asking myself if I should file an ADA complaint
Great place to spend the weekend. We used the SPA which was excellent one of the best treatments ever. Had a delicious steak dinner at the Timbeline grill service was great. Lunch at the Fireside Kitchen which was equally good, but a little slow on service. The pool and hot tub and property is well maintained and very clean. Our hosts Kevin & Alvin were gracious, helpfull, and excellent at their jobs as we experienced on previous visits & stays. The hotel staff was well trained and gracious at every level. We definatly will return whenever visiting the Colorado region we always stay at the Ameristar because of their excellent service and hospitality.
Ameristar Black Hawk is one of my preferred spots to stay when I’m in town. The poker room is cool, though I do wish it had a more action . Where Ameristar really shines is the overall experience. There are great restaurants on property. I highly recommend the steakhouse. Every meal I’ve had there has been excellent. The rooftop pool on the top floor is a standout feature and absolutely worth checking out. Going in the outdoor hot tub in the snow was amazing. It’s one of the best amenities in Black Hawk and really sets this property apart. Between the rooms, dining, and amenities, Ameristar Casino Black Hawk is a great all-around choice and an easy 5 star stay. I’ll definitely be back.
